The foundation of Ubuntu Turkey roots back to the final quarter of year 2005, while Ubuntu Turkey as of today has reunited on the first quarter of February, 2008.
As the Ubuntu Turkey family, we have come together and revived the forum on 2008. We have made a lot of progress since then; the forum has flourished by leaps and bounds, and is now on the verge of 3000 users. Hearing the needs of our members, we have subsequently initiated our Wiki project. With foreign Ubuntu users in mind, we have formed subsections in English as the main language. Having supported other GNU/Linux distributions as best as we could, we have unleashed new subsections pertaining to those distributions.
Then, we have turned our attention to a brand new Turkish E-Magazine, which would cover Ubuntu based news and articles, software guides and tutorials. Our first issue, released recently, has been welcomed with praises by the local IT world and has become a source of pride for us all. Consequently, there are now volunteer teams such as the E-Zine team, translation team, Wiki team, Full Circle Magazine localization team, altogether working actively under the Ubuntu Turkey shelter.
As the Ubuntu Turkish team, our main objective is first to get people to know Ubuntu and GNU/Linux in general, and then to get them familiar and content with it. In this respect, Ubuntu Turkey is a platform not only with self-giving administrators, but also with conscious participants, where refined discussions take place and unconditional share of knowledge is the only asset, and where everyone, knowledgeable or not, is welcomed heartily and treated equally. There is no place among us to any discrimination on language, religion, race or opinion. It is our faith in humanity and in the spirit of free software community that binds us together across frontiers and empowers us with enough inspiration and motivation.
With our members, whom we regard as part of our family, members day by day increasing in quantity, yet never decreasing in quality, with our continual studies on technical assistance, Wiki, E-Zine, translation and localization, and with an earnest support on ongoing FOSS projects around; we carry on prospering day in day out, all the while proudly carrying the flag of Ubuntu.
